Kai And Sunny

Once again sorry for the lack of posting, I've been busy recently and just haven't had the time.

Kai and Sunny are a bountiful design duo, who show case their work in many arenas of art and design including fashion, advertising, publishing, illustrations and exhibitions.

I've just read cloud atlas (a wonderful book I must add) and was enthralled by the artwork showcased on the cover on the book, I love the twirling shapes and the contrast between the the light blue and that fading pink playing the sun set. Really is one bea-utiful book.

They also asked me to mention their exhibition located at Stolenspace Gallery that finished yesterday, it is entitled 'Return To The Wild'. They continue with their same abstract pattern style, but this time they include various forms of nature. Here are some pictures via Creative Review.

Back from my little break and I have a Mixtape featuring 14 superb tracks that have enlightened me in recent times. It clocks in at 51 mins as far as I'm aware, so it's my longest mix yet and would certainly be my favourite.

The Drums: New Album

As you might of guessed The Drums are my current musical crave and the establishment of their new self-tiled album obviously excites me. 'Me And The Moon' and 'Forever And Ever Amen' are particular highlights for me with there upbeat beach pop sound. The only criticism I would have is the inclusion of 'Down By The Water' which in my opinion slightly ruins the theme, but overall defiantly worth a buy.

The NO.1 bicycle company in Japan, Tokyo Bike is set to launch in London this summer, which in opinion is great news for all the bike fanatics out there. At just 10kg the 'Tokyo bike' is ideal for cycling around town and comes in a variation of shapes and sizes.

This is my current favourite band, The Drums playing on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. Don't know if anybody watched it, but I thought it was wonderful. There was bags of energy running through their elaborate single 'Best Friend'. History was made that night.

Pencil Package Design

This pencil packaging is designed by Swiss artist Kevin Angeloni. Not exactly perfect for the packaging solution, but we're looking at the slick design here. "The pencil is contained in a thin glass cylinder topped with a cork. Everything is placed in a plexiglass holder".

Jim Lambie's brightly coloured metal sculptures, some made from crushed suits of armour really enlightened me. I loved all his previous works and this new work is typical of him, fresh lustrous colours neatly arranged into inspired shapes.

Lead singer Jonathan Pierce met Jacob Graham at summer camp when they were kids and have been best friends ever since. They formed electro/pop band Goat Explosion in there teens, the band toured extensively around North America. In late 2008 they decided to get serious and Jonathan and Jacob formed The Drums, later Jonathan's home town friend Adam Kessler and NYC born drummer Connor Hanwick joined. Check out the video below, got to be the coolest dancer of all time!

Songs like 'Lets Go Surfing' and 'Best Friend' reveal there eccentric style of indie/pop. The sounds are incredible it makes other bands that have been around for years look poor. They've just released they're new album 'The Drums' and although I haven't got it yet, I'm certainly looking for to having a listen.

I was browsing around Flickr when I came across these photos. They are token by Artpixie and from what I see show enchanting colours drawing you in to a soft focus. Although you might think the pictures are a bit dull, the colours make up for that, worth checking out her blog.

Simon Bray: A Grim Overlay

This picture is of a WW2 army base called Merryfield Park, the picture was token by British photographer Simon Bray. In my opinion the picture shows a lot of atmosphere. It expresses a grim overlay of the deserted place. It's almost impossible to imagine what the site was like before the destruction, but it certainly didn't look like that.

Two very interesting and inspiring videos made by weareom.

Chop Cup seems predictable at the start a typical magic trick, but from what see about half way through they pause the camera and replace the cup with a sticker. It's quite hard to know what think about this film, but very creative and took a lot of effort on a small budget. Great work very appealing.

The second video Choices is more of a serious message. The life of a girl growing up, there is a lot more to it but that's the idea. I think weareom have done a wonderful job, it gives you a sense of the world out there and to think about what you can do to help people in poor situations compared to us. There's a contrast between the making of this film and the message they want to get across. You have a mind set at the start that it's going to be jolly, blissful film, but that soon changes and your certainly not smiling at the end.

First Post: Freelance Whales

Here we are my first post what an incredibly exciting moment for me. I'm going to start with a band I've been all over recently. They're called Freelance Whales, they formed in Queens, New York and tend to produce some very unique sounds using unfamiliar instruments such as harmonium, banjo and waterphone. Recently they released there debut album Weathervanes. Tracks such as Starring, Kilojoules and Generator ^ First and Second Floor flow with animation and meaning really bringing out the true colours of the band.

Freelance Whales regularly play around the streets and subways of New York, and have made it there tradition to alert people to there extravagant indie folk sound. Hopefully they will get the recognition they deserve, defiantly a band to check out.
